Slashspace vs Msty
The Msty alternative that lays your models out on a canvas.
Slashspace is a Msty alternative with the same model freedom: your keys, your Claude or ChatGPT plan, local models through Ollama. The difference is the canvas, where branches, notes and sources sit side by side and lines decide what each chat reads.
What Slashspace does that Msty doesn't
- Built-in hosted AI
- Infinite canvas
- Transcribe TikTok, Instagram, X posts
- Agent that builds a canvas
40% less than Msty Aurum
- Slashspace
- $89/year
- Msty Aurum
- $149/year per user
- Msty: Studio Desktop has a free tier; Aurum Lifetime is $349 per user.
$89/year after the trial. Or $249 once.

Why people switch from Msty
Think on a canvas, not in threads
Msty organizes work as conversations, split chats and branches. Slashspace puts every chat, note and source on one map.
Branch from the exact line
Select a sentence in any answer and ask about just that. The branch sits next to the thread it came from.
Context you wire, and can see
Draw a line from a source to a chat and the chat reads it in full with every message. Click a chat to see every input.
Videos become sources
Paste YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, X, LinkedIn or Facebook links and get transcripts, included in the plan.
An agent that lays out the work
Give Orchestrator a goal and it adds connected chats, notes, web pages and posts, with sub-agents doing the research.
Less to pay each year
$89/year against $149 for Aurum, or $249 one-time lifetime against $349 for Aurum Lifetime.

A canvas for your models
Slashspace is a Msty alternative for people who like Msty's model freedom but think in maps, not threads. Each chat node has its own model, so one canvas can mix Claude, GPT and a local model, with the sources and notes each chat needs wired in beside it.
- Your plan. Slashspace drives the official Claude Code and Codex CLIs on your computer, signed in with your own account. Usage counts against your Claude or ChatGPT plan.
- Your keys. Encrypted with your system's secure storage and kept on your computer (API providers).
- Local models. Install Ollama and its models appear in the picker, free per message.
- Custom providers. LM Studio, vLLM or your company's OpenAI-compatible gateway (custom providers).

Branch the line, not the message
Msty branches when you edit a message. Slashspace also branches from a sentence you select, and every branch stays on the canvas.
- Ask about this. Select text in an answer and ask about just that passage.
- Submit in new branch. ⌘⇧Enter (Ctrl+Shift+Enter on Windows and Linux) sends a message to a new branch and keeps the original.
- Clean context. Sibling branches can't see each other.
- Compare models. Press ⌘B once per model, pick a model in each, send the same prompt.

Context you can see
- Connections are context. A chat reads what's wired into it, down the whole chain (connections).
- Summarized or isolated. Give a chat a canvas summary, or only its own conversation.
- @mention to connect. Type @ in a chat to pull in a note or source by name.
- Sources in full. PDFs, Office files, web pages and video transcripts are sent whole, not chunked.

Local-first, honestly
Canvases are folders on your computer, with canvas.json, a Context.md summary and an images folder.
- Local chats stay local. With Ollama, the conversation and its context go to your machine, not a cloud provider.
- What still uses the network. Sign-in, capturing documents, web pages and posts, chat titles, connectors and voice input.
- Uploaded sources. Documents, web pages and videos you add are stored on Slashspace's servers so the AI can read them (privacy).
- Orchestrator. Runs in Slashspace's cloud on a model Slashspace picks.
Switching from Msty
- Connect your AI: sign in to Claude Code or Codex, add keys, or install Ollama. Models already in Ollama appear automatically.
- Back up your conversations in Msty: open a conversation's menu, choose Export Conversation, then As JSON or As ZIP.
- Bring your knowledge: drag the PDFs, Word files and spreadsheets from your Knowledge Stacks onto a canvas, and paste your web and video links.
- Move personas and system prompts into Text nodes or Slashspace personas, wire them into chats, and branch from there.
| In Msty | In Slashspace |
|---|---|
| A conversation | A Chat node, with branches |
| A split chat | One branch per model |
| A branch | A branch beside the original |
| Knowledge Stack files | Document nodes wired into chats |
| A persona | A persona, or a Text node with instructions |
Frequently asked questions
What can Slashspace do that Msty can't?
Slashspace puts every chat, note and source on one canvas, where lines decide what each chat reads. It branches from a selected sentence, turns TikTok, Instagram and X posts into transcripts, and has Orchestrator build a canvas from a goal.
Can I use local models in Slashspace like in Msty?
Yes, through Ollama. Install Ollama, and the models you download appear in the picker, free per message. LM Studio and vLLM work as custom providers. Msty also installs and manages MLX and Llama.cpp engines for you, which Slashspace doesn't.
Can I use my Claude or ChatGPT subscription in Slashspace?
Yes. Slashspace drives the official Claude Code and Codex command-line tools on your computer, signed in with your own account, and usage counts against your Claude or ChatGPT plan.
Is Slashspace cheaper than Msty?
For paid features, yes: $89/year against $149 per user for Msty Aurum, or $249 one-time lifetime against $349 for Aurum Lifetime. But Msty Studio Desktop has a free tier, and Slashspace has no free plan.
Can I import my Msty conversations?
Not as chats. Keep your .json or .mstyconv exports as a backup, then bring over your documents, links and prompts and start fresh chats on the canvas.
Where does Slashspace store my work?
Canvases are local files on your computer. Documents, web pages and videos you add are uploaded and stored on Slashspace's servers so the AI can read them, and Orchestrator runs in Slashspace's cloud.
