Slashspace vs TypingMind
A TypingMind alternative built around a branching canvas.
Slashspace is a TypingMind alternative that keeps your own API keys and adds your Claude or ChatGPT plan and local models. Branch any line, see every thread side by side, and keep your canvases as files on your computer.
What Slashspace does that TypingMind doesn't
- Use your Claude or ChatGPT plan
- Visual map of branches
- Slashspace
- $249 one-time lifetime, or $89/year
- TypingMind Premium
- One-time license, plus your API costs
- TypingMind: One-time licenses for Standard, Extended and Premium; API costs are extra.
$89/year after the trial. Or $249 once.

Why people switch from TypingMind
Use the plan you already pay for
Slashspace drives the official Claude Code and Codex CLIs on your computer, signed in with your own account, next to your API keys.
Branches laid out on a canvas
TypingMind keeps versions behind arrows and can fork into a new chat. Slashspace takes a different approach: every branch is a node beside its parent.
Branch the sentence, not the thread
Select a line in any answer, type a question, press Enter. A branch opens on that passage while the main thread stays put.
Context you wire by hand
Connect a PDF, a note and two chats into one chat, and that's what it reads. Click any chat to see every input.
Sources beyond documents
Paste TikTok, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, Facebook or YouTube links and get the transcript as a source any chat can read.
Agents that build
Give Orchestrator a goal and it lays out connected chats, notes and sources for you.

Branches you can see side by side
Slashspace is a TypingMind alternative for people who want their branches on a canvas. TypingMind already handles branching well: edit or regenerate a message and the original stays, with arrows to flip between versions, and Fork chat from here copies the conversation into a new chat. Slashspace takes a different approach: it lays those branches out as connected nodes so you can see how they relate.
On Slashspace, a branch is a new chat node connected to the one you came from.
- Submit in new branch. Press ⌘⇧Enter (Ctrl+Shift+Enter on Windows and Linux) and your prompt runs in a new chat beside the original. The original never receives it.
- Ask about a passage. Select a sentence in any answer and the "Ask about this" bubble opens a branch on just that text, saved on the canvas.
- Siblings stay apart. Each branch reads its parent and everything upstream. Sibling branches can't see each other, and nothing flows back.
- Tidy when it sprawls. Tidy Up lays every branch out to the right of its parent. Color, group or collapse the ones you're done with.

Bring your plan, keys or models
TypingMind is built around your own API keys, and its price doesn't include API costs. Slashspace takes keys too, and also lets you use the Claude or ChatGPT subscription you already pay for.
- Your plan. Slashspace drives the official Claude Code and Codex CLIs on your computer, signed in with your own Claude or ChatGPT account. Usage counts against that plan. If an Anthropic or OpenAI API key is set in your computer's environment, the CLI may bill that key instead.
- Your keys. OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Perplexity, xAI, OpenRouter, DeepSeek, Groq and more, encrypted with your system's secure storage.
- Local and custom models. Ollama runs models on your machine, free per message. LM Studio, vLLM or a company gateway connect as custom providers.
- Optional built-in AI. Hosted models, with Auto picking one for you.

Wire what each chat reads
In TypingMind, context comes from the chat history, projects and the knowledge base. On a Slashspace canvas, context follows connections. Connect a PDF, a web page and two earlier chats into one chat and it reads them in full with every message.
- Summarized context. A chat with no connections gets a short summary of the rest of the canvas.
- Isolated context. For a question that shouldn't be anchored by your notes, the chat reads only its own conversation.
- See the inputs. Click a chat and every connection feeding it lights up, all the way up the chain.
Paste a post, get the transcript
Post nodes turn YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X and LinkedIn links into a player and a transcript. Document nodes handle PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, CSV, Markdown and more.
TypingMind's built-in web search (Extended and Premium) is stronger for open-web research than Slashspace's Web nodes today.

Where your work lives
Both apps keep your work on your device, in different ways. TypingMind stores chats in your browser's local storage, with optional cloud sync across devices. Slashspace saves each canvas as a folder on your computer, with no cloud sync or backup.
Some Slashspace features do use its servers: hosted models, Orchestrator, and the documents, web pages and posts you add are processed there. The privacy page lists exactly what goes where.
Switching from TypingMind
- Get the app: download Slashspace for Mac, Windows or Linux and start the 3-day trial.
- Add your keys in Settings, then API Providers. Keys stay on the computer where you add them.
- Using Claude or ChatGPT? Sign in to Claude Code or Codex once and turn them on in Subscription Providers.
- Bring your history: export your TypingMind data as JSON and drop the file on a canvas. It lands as a document any chat can read; split very large exports, since a chat skips text past about 500 KB.
- Keep TypingMind for the browser and your phone if you like. The two can sit side by side.
| In TypingMind | In Slashspace |

Frequently asked questions
How do Slashspace and TypingMind prices compare?
TypingMind costs less. It is $39, $79 or $99 once, plus your API costs. Slashspace is $249 one-time lifetime, or $89/year, starting with a 3-day trial (card required). The two are built for different jobs: TypingMind is a full-featured chat app with AI agents, plugins and a RAG knowledge base, while Slashspace puts your chats on a canvas, adds Orchestrator and lets you use your Claude or ChatGPT plan.
Does TypingMind support branching?
Yes, and it does it well. Editing or regenerating a message keeps every version behind arrows, Fork chat from here copies a conversation into a new chat, and Side Chat opens a separate thread on a highlighted passage without saving it to the main conversation. Slashspace takes a different approach: branches sit on a canvas where you can see, compare and connect them.
Can I use my ChatGPT or Claude subscription in Slashspace?
Yes. Slashspace drives the official Claude Code and Codex command-line tools on your computer, signed in with your own account, and usage counts against your plan. You can also use API keys or local models.
Can I use my API keys in Slashspace like in TypingMind?
Yes. Add keys for OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI, OpenRouter and others. They're encrypted with your system's secure storage and stay on that computer.
Does Slashspace work in a browser or on my phone?
Not yet. Slashspace is a desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux. Web and mobile are coming soon. If you need your AI chats on your phone today, TypingMind is the better fit.
What happens if I stop paying?
On Lifetime, nothing: it's yours. On the yearly plan, your canvases stay on your computer, but Slashspace asks you to subscribe or buy Lifetime before it opens them again. A TypingMind license doesn't expire, which is one of its strengths.
Can I import my TypingMind chats into Slashspace?
Not as chats. Export your TypingMind data as JSON to keep a backup; dropping that file on a canvas makes a Document node a chat can read, though a chat skips text past about 500 KB. Then bring over your documents, links and prompts and start fresh chats.
Is Slashspace a new app?
No. Slashspace was formerly RabbitHoles AI. Same team, new name.
