For research
An AI research canvas for questions too big for one chat.
Slashspace is an AI research canvas. In a chat scroll you see one thread and the last few messages. On a canvas your papers, web pages, questions and drafts sit side by side, so you can hold the whole problem in your head, see how sources connect and choose which model reads what.

What is an AI research canvas?
An AI research canvas is an infinite workspace where sources, questions and AI chats are separate pieces you can see and connect. Each chat reads only the sources you wire into it, so you always know what an answer is based on, and the whole investigation stays on one screen instead of scrolling away.
Research is rarely one question. It's a dozen related ones, each needing different sources, and the insight comes from seeing them together. That is what a canvas is for.
How research works on a canvas, in four steps
- Bring your sources in. Drop PDFs and Office files as Document nodes, paste a link to capture a web page as a Web node, or paste a YouTube or other video link as a Post node, which fetches the transcript. Connected chats read the extracted text and transcripts.
- Give every question its own chat. Start one chat per question and connect only the sources it needs, by dragging a connection or typing
@. - Branch and compare. Branch any answer, or a single sentence of it, to chase a follow-up. Ask the same question to two or three models side by side on the same sources.
- Pull it together. Group finished chats or sources and connect the group to a new chat to write a summary from all of it. Download the canvas as Markdown when you're done.
Research jobs
- Literature review. Compare and synthesize papers, one research question per chat.
Why research on a canvas instead of in a chat
- See more at once. Sources and answers stay where you put them, so a glance takes in what a long scroll hides.
- Know what each answer drew on. Click a chat and every source feeding it lights up.
- Keep lines of inquiry apart. Sibling branches can't see each other, so one question never leaks into another.
- Any model, per question. Use the hosted models, your own API keys, or local models through Ollama. If you already pay for Claude or ChatGPT, Slashspace drives the official Claude Code and Codex CLIs on your computer, signed in with your own account.
- Find anything later. Press
⌘K(Ctrl+Kon Windows and Linux) to search the canvas. AI Search can find text inside your documents.
Research connectors
Agent mode chats can use connectors to reach research services directly from the canvas, including Semantic Scholar, OpenAlex, Consensus, ChatAcademia, Readwise Reader and Mathpix. Included connectors need an active plan; the trial counts.
Good to know before you start
- Documents and web pages are processed on Slashspace's servers. Files are uploaded and converted to text there, and web pages are captured by a hosted service. For sensitive material, paste the passages you need into a text note instead. Details: privacy
- Document nodes are marked beta in the right-click menu.
- Every connected source is sent in full with every message, so connect big sources only to the chats that need them.
- Desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux.
Pricing
Every feature, unlimited canvases.
- Yearly: $89 a year, starting with a 3-day trial (card required).
- Lifetime: $249, one payment.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best way to use AI for research?
Split the work. Give each question its own chat, connect only the sources it needs, and compare answers across models before you trust one. Keep everything visible so you can see how the pieces fit, then check every claim against the source.
Can Slashspace search for papers?
Slashspace is not a paper search engine. Agent mode chats can use research connectors such as Semantic Scholar, OpenAlex and Consensus, or you can bring papers in from the tools you already use.
Which AI models can I use?
Hosted models, your own API keys for providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and OpenRouter, or local models through Ollama. If you already pay for Claude or ChatGPT, Slashspace drives the official Claude Code and Codex CLIs on your computer, signed in with your own account.
Is my research private?
Canvases live in a folder on your computer and aren't synced to Slashspace's servers. Documents, web pages and AI Search do send content to Slashspace's servers, and chats send their context to the model you pick. The privacy page lists exactly what goes where.
How much does it cost?
$89 a year, starting with a 3-day trial (card required), or $249 one-time lifetime.
Put the whole investigation on one canvas.
Bring in your sources, give every question its own chat and see how it all connects.
