Slashspace vs NotebookLM
The NotebookLM alternative that maps the research around your sources.
Slashspace is a NotebookLM alternative for research that doesn't fit in one chat: lay out PDFs, videos and web pages on a canvas, wire each into the chats that need it, branch any answer, and pick the model for every chat.
What Slashspace does that NotebookLM doesn't
- Choose the model for each chat
- Use your Claude or ChatGPT plan
- Use your own keys or local models
- Compare models side by side
- Branch chats from any sentence
- Transcribe TikTok, Instagram, X posts
- Agent that builds a canvas
- Agent uses 1,500+ apps
- Canvases saved as local files
- Slashspace
- $89/year, or $249 one-time lifetime
- NotebookLM (now Gemini Notebook)
- Free; higher limits with Google AI plans
- NotebookLM: Free with usage limits; Google AI plans raise them.
$89/year after the trial. Or $249 once.

Why people switch from NotebookLM
Choose your model
NotebookLM runs on Google's Gemini models. Slashspace runs Claude, GPT, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek or a local model, chosen per chat.
Research isn't one chat
Run a chat per question, each reading only the sources you connect, side by side on one canvas.
Branch the tangent, keep the thread
Select a sentence in any answer and branch. The original answer stays put.
Compare answers fairly
Send the same prompt to three models on the same sources and read the answers next to each other.
Sources beyond YouTube
Paste TikTok, Instagram, X, LinkedIn or Facebook links and get transcripts, alongside PDFs and web pages.
Files on your computer
Each canvas is a folder you keep, not a notebook inside your Google account.

A canvas for research
Slashspace is a NotebookLM alternative for research that branches. NotebookLM (now called Gemini Notebook) gives each notebook one chat over your sources. On a Slashspace canvas, every source and every chat is a node, and the lines between them decide what each chat reads.
- Connections are context. A chat reads what's wired into it, down the whole chain (connections).
- Summarized or isolated. Give a chat a summary of the canvas, or only its own conversation.
- @mention to connect. Type @ in a chat to pull in a note or source by name.
- See every input. Click any chat to see exactly what feeds it.

Branch and compare
On a canvas, every branch stays in view next to the chat it came from.
- Ask about this. Select text in an answer and ask about just that passage.
- Submit in new branch. ⌘⇧Enter (Ctrl+Shift+Enter on Windows and Linux) sends a message to a new branch and keeps the original.
- Clean context. Sibling branches can't see each other.
- Fair comparisons. Press ⌘B once per model, pick a model in each, send the same prompt.

Any model, per chat
Each chat node has its own model.
- Your plan. Slashspace drives the official Claude Code and Codex CLIs on your computer, signed in with your own account. Usage counts against your Claude or ChatGPT plan.
- Your keys. OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Perplexity, xAI, OpenRouter, DeepSeek, Groq and more.
- Local models. Ollama runs open models on your computer, free per message.
- Optional built-in AI. Hosted models, with Auto picking one.
Sources in full
- Documents. PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, CSV, Markdown and code files, under 50 MB each (Document node).
- Web pages. Paste a link to capture the page's text. Pages behind logins or paywalls don't capture.
- Videos and posts. YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, X, LinkedIn and Facebook links become transcripts (Post node).
- Honest about the cloud. Documents, web pages and videos you add are uploaded and stored on Slashspace's servers so the AI can read them, and Orchestrator runs in Slashspace's cloud (privacy).

Switching from NotebookLM
- Connect your AI: sign in to Claude Code or Codex, add keys, or install Ollama.
- Save your notes: hover a note in the Sources panel, choose More, then Export to Docs. Reports export from their three-dot menu. Save chat answers you want to keep as notes first.
- Bring your sources: drag in the same PDFs and files, download Google Docs or Slides as .docx, .pptx or PDF and drag those in, and paste your YouTube and web links.
- Wire and branch: drop your exported notes in as Documents or paste them into Text nodes, connect them to a chat, and branch from there.

Frequently asked questions
Is NotebookLM still available?
Yes. On July 16, 2026, Google renamed NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook. Google says it's the same standalone product, and old links redirect.
Is there a NotebookLM alternative that uses Claude or GPT?
Slashspace lets you pick the model for each chat: Claude through the official Claude Code CLI or an Anthropic key, GPT through the official Codex CLI or an OpenAI key, plus Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek and local models through Ollama.
Does Slashspace cite sources like NotebookLM?
Not the same way. Connected chats read your sources in full, but Slashspace has no inline citations that jump to the exact passage. If you need those, NotebookLM is the better choice.
Can Slashspace make Audio Overviews or flashcards?
No. Slashspace focuses on chats, branches and sources on a canvas. NotebookLM's Audio Overviews, Video Overviews, quizzes and flashcards have no equivalent.
How do I move my NotebookLM notes to Slashspace?
In NotebookLM, hover a note in the Sources panel, choose More, then Export to Docs. Reports export from their three-dot menu. Download the Docs as .docx or PDF, drop them on a canvas as Document nodes, and drag in the same source files and links you used.
Where does Slashspace store my work?
Canvases are local files on your computer. Documents, web pages and videos you add are uploaded and stored on Slashspace's servers so the AI can read them, and Orchestrator runs in Slashspace's cloud.
